LEAVE A MESSAGE

“I’M SORRY. I thought we HAD more time.”

Leave a Message

October 28 - November 6, 2021

5 Harrison St, New York, NY 10013

Leave a Message is a pop-up interactive public art project hosted by the collaborative duo behind A.M. Bjiere. The public is invited to participate by dialing 347-855-3221 to “Leave a message for someone you want to, but cannot.” Callers are free to interpret this prompt as they wish. Voicemails are interposed between music during the pop-up project as part of an audio-visual exhibit, framing externalized “self-portraits” of individuals.

Ed. Note: A.M. Bjiere is currently formulating a way to translate the Leave a Message experience to an online format, so the voicemails can live on for new audiences. These are powerful, vulnerable expositions, and while we think they are important to keep available for listeners, we want to take care to present them in a way that is consistent with the same level of care and respect for the speakers as was taken for the exhibition presentation.

Is there a right and wrong way to look at ourselves? Do we not look at ourselves enough, or too much?

What does it mean to say what was left unsaid, when no one is on the other end of the line?
